Unfortunately this little café has closed down now, I went hunting for it last week and it's no longer there. Any other café with a nice ambience someone can suggest please?

This article is so true. We spent 5 weeks in Paris in 2009.
After trying many coffee shops this was by far the best. As it was near our unit we had Antonios coffee as we went out and finished the day as often his last customers before closing in the evening. Great coffee and great host.

I beg to differ (though, loved the article). I thought the Parisian "cafe" was far better than anything found here in the US. I miss it! The sweetness, the chocolate, the little cups (and yes, the ambiance of it all) hit a spot in my coffee pallet. Though, to be frank, I'm far from a coffee connoisseur.

Great post!

I had lived in Paris back in 2006-2007 and faced the same problem... after a few months in and dozen tries at various cafes I sort of "quit" drinking coffee there and opted for tea or hot chocolate instead...

[...] On the south end of the passage (probably where you came in) is an unassuming cafe called Gocce di Caffe where owner/barista Antonio Costanza is serving up perhaps the finest espresso in Paris. Check out Adam’s review and interview here: www.alifewortheating.com [...]

Great article, even though I disagree on the frequency. Its so shocking when it happens, a bad pull (or non-pack) in Paris -- when you can get a consistently good one on South Dakota, go figure.

Don't the French-made Starbucks clones like Caribou Coffee. I think they do a great, consistent cup of espresso.

Ha, that is surprising. Traveling to Paris later this year and I'll definitely be craving some good coffee during my trip.

It's hard to get decent, affordable coffee in Seoul where it's flooded with millions of big-name coffee shops. In downtown, I can easily spot five to six within a single block. Starbucks, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Dunkin Donuts (ridiculously popular in Korea), and other local brands. You name it, we've got it. But none of them, not surprisingly, got decent coffee.

It was awesome. Your claim that this is the only good expresso in town may be excessive -- that tiny place on rue des Petits-Champs, for instance, jump to mind. But on the whole, I wouldn't disagree that the coffee quality is very unsatisfactory.
